The top team as a role model for the rest of the organization Name Institution The top team as a role model for the rest of the organization. Introduction The top team also known as executive team is the most observable and discernible people in an organization. A top team is a team grooved to deliver and stretch the goals of an organization to great heights. A top team has a principle of mutual support and mutual responsibility in an organization. A top team also has the responsibility of managing the resources of an organization. It also manages the implementation of a company’s’ plan (John & Schilling, 2010). This paper evaluates the ways in which the executive team of League club Limited can act as a role model for the rest of the organization in key management areas. The top team also has the responsibility of guiding the employees to success by communicating and managing effectively the job functions through making all employees understand their job roles and what is expected of them in an organization (Moyle’s, 2006). The top team therefore, acts as a role model in innovation, creativity, problem solving and teamwork for the rest of the organization. To ensure that leaugue club performs well in future, the top team of league club must learn how to lead by example to ensure that it acts as a role model for the rest of the organization. The performance of the top team influences the overall performance of an organization. Highly performing teams are essential in to stretch further the success of an organization. A top team that functions flexibly and in collaboration with the rest of the people in an organization to deliver a brilliant performance on some strategic issues is a highly performing team (Gold, 2010). League clubs’ top team need to rise to the challenge of delivering high performance on all strategic issues in the club to ensure that the club maintains its position as a highly performing club. The top team also has the responsibility of building a favorable culture in an organization that promotes growth. The best atmosphere in an organization is the one that is always highly charged and an environment that can handle challenges easily. It is the duty of the top team to create such an atmosphere. A highly performing top team exhibits a high sense of common vision and shared responsibility in an organization (IDEA, 2010). Such a favorable and collaborative environment is highly needed in league club limited to ensure that the perennial internal wrangles that face the club are eliminated or reduced. It is the duty of the leagues club top team to provide exemplary leadership in managing these wrangles. A highly performing top team is not obsessed with personal agendas of the team members but is concerned with the greater common good of the organization. High performing top teams focus on long-term sustainability for positive legacy of the organization. A highly performing top team is therefore a unified and very mutually supportive group where the top team members are more valuable to an organization jointly as a team rather than as personalities (winter, 2010). Although the top team of league club enjoys good group dynamics , it is necessarily to enhance the group dynamics further to build more cohesiveness in the top team. League club limited suffers from the challenge of lack of good measures of evaluating the effectiveness of its top team. The top team in league club limited can use many ways in evaluating its effectiveness. One of the indirect ways the top team in league club can use in of evaluating the overall performance of the club. Overall performance points to the effectiveness of the decisions made by the top team on the organization. Brilliant performance of an organization indicates good performance of the executive team (Tony, 2003). There are also many direct ways that League club top team can use in evaluating its performance .These direct measures are the measures directly attributed to the decisions and the actions of the top management team (Tony, 2003). One of the most common measure of evaluating top teams is the assessment of key stakeholders of an organization on the performance of the top team. The assessment given by the key stakeholders in and out of an organization is very effective in evaluating the effectiveness of the top team. The key stakeholders in an organization are the people affected most by the actions of the top management team. This assessment involves rating the performance of the top team against a set scale or standard made by the key stakeholders in an organization (Welch, 2005). The top team league club limited should periodically review the feedback from the club fans and the owners to gauge its performance. The second measure that the top team in League club limited can use in determining the performance is the determination its group cohesiveness. The key measurements used in determining cohesiveness include determination of whether there are shared interests commitment and responsibility within the top team. .Highly performing top teams work in a way that enhances commitments and shared skills (Welch, 2005). Top performing teams also periodically review the way they function and learn various lessons from their experiences. Top performing teams also are adept in detecting errors and correcting them in a timely manner (Singe, 1995). League club executive team can use such measurements to detect areas in top teams group dynamics that need improvement. The third criterion that can be used by league clubs’ top team to evaluate its performance of is the contribution the group makes to the individual growth and improvement of the team members in the organization. Effective top teams are avenues for every member of the team to learn, expand their knowledge and gaining fresh insights into the world. Highly performing top teams spawns brilliant interpersonal relationships in an organization. An effective top team has positive impacts to the individual members of a top team by enhancing their personal growth and development (Langdon-fox, 2003). This measure can act as a benchmark to league club in enhancing interpersonal relationships in the top team. Enhancing the executive team of league club to function as a high-performing team League club executive team is the senior management team in charge of the overall administration and management of the organization. Many strategies can be used to make the executive team in league club function at high performance levels. One of the ways is improving the group dynamics within the executive team. This entails improving the cohesiveness in its top team through making sure that each member has the right to contribute positively to the functioning of the executive team. Improving the group dynamics in a team fosters friendship in a team that, improves motivation and commitment in the top team. Friendships in groups also improves the groups attractiveness of the team to the team members and makes it easier for the team members to get drawn into discussions of the team .This makes people enjoy being part of a team. Improving the dynamics in a team also improves decision making within a top team for better performance (Winter, 2010). The top team in leagues club should rise to this challenge of enhancing its group dynamics for better performance. An environment in a top team where there is open communication and where members feel free to present alternate ideas and plans of action promotes vigorous debate in a team that can make improve their performance. Such an open environment allows the people in a team to feel tolerated and makes people accept dissent on many issues in the team (Winter, 2010). League club top team needs to create such an environment to allow more relaxed and engaging conversations in the team that can spawn better insights for the performance of a group. Another approach that league club top team can use to enhance its performance is making sure that the team sets clear goals that are measurable achievable and specific. This ensures that the goals set are manageable for the top team to accomplish in time for better performance. Enhancing mechanisms for consistent and clear communications among the executive team is also another approach that can be used to enhance the performance of the top team in league club . Clear communication is a sign of a highly successful team (Welch, 2005). Team building activities is another strategy that league club top team can use to enhance its performance. Team building activities such as group retreats where members can voice their frustrations and concerns about their group can enhance group cohesiveness. Another way of enhancing the performance of the executive team is regularly celebrating the top teams’ accomplishments to build morale for high performance (John & schilling, 2010). The top team as a role model in adopting a farming strategy in recruiting talent. League club’s top team has the responsibility of identifying and retaining top talent in for the club. Quality workers and players can transform this club to great heights. The top management should identify from its pool of workers and players the workers with the right skills to spearhead the organization for more success. This approach is called farming. (Gauci, 2011). Under this initiative, an organization deliberately attracts and retains people in an organization by harnessing their skills and abilities for the organization. Farming helps organizations to develop managers and players who are conversant with the culture and the operations of an organization. Farming helps an organization to develop a clear path from being a junior employee to a top executive in an organization (Gauci, 2011). It is not easy to identify people with the required skills and competencies that league club needs. It is also not easy to prepare farmed talent for leadership roles or senior roles in games. Identifying such people with the required preparation and training requires a competent top team that possesses the necessarily skills and knowledge of identifying talent within an organization. The process of progression of employees from an individual into a leader within an organization requires a careful plan of selection and various stages of preparation (Gauci, 2011). The top team in league club should not only identify and train potential talents identified in the organization. The executive team should also continually monitor and evaluate the talent to ensure that the staff undergoes continued development and improvement. League club executive team should be at the vanguard of creating a culture of farming talent within the organization to ensure that it creates a continuous cycle of development of talent and a continuous reserve of quality employees Potential leaders in an organization need to be very capable individuals with the appropriate leadership skills (Tony, 2003). Such people often display informal leadership skills in certain programs or activities and these qualities should be viewed as a prerequisite for formal leadership roles in an organization by leagues club executive team. Potential leadership qualities include traits such as being proactive, innovative, empathy self-management and self-control traits. Identifying these leadership’s qualities in an organization requires continuous monitoring and setting in place methods that can bring out the leadership qualities in people (Gauci, 2003). It is the duty of league clubs executive team to develop and implement such farming mechanisms for the club. The top team in league club should also develop a brilliant transition and developmental phase for the farmed talent. A brilliant developmental phase ensures that the identified talent has the adequate training to handle the roles their new leadership roles in future (Gauci, 2003). Adopting systematic development of farmed talent in an organization would ensure this club draws only the capable talent to handle senior responsibilities. Such a farming strategy adoption by the company would ensure that the club establishes a clear path progression for its workers to senior leadership roles. A farming strategy of hiring individuals grown within the organization ensures that individuals nurtured in the company are hired for senior leadership roles in the organization (IDEA, 2010). The top team in league club should always be at the forefront of promoting such a process in the organization to ensure it create a culture of continuous excellence in hiring and developing talent. The top team in league club as a role model in Developing team leaders. League club limited functions in a team-oriented atmosphere where every member in each team contributes to the overall excellence of the organization. Team leaders are very essential in managing teams in an organization. The top team in league club is the one charged with the responsibility of selecting and developing the team leaders to lead the various teams in the organization. Developing team leaders in an organization is a challenging process because it means equipping people with the leadership qualities that help them to become effective team leaders in the future. The top team in league club should first recognize that leadership development is a long-term process because it requires some change to the people training to become leaders (Welch, 2005). League club executive team should make sure that team leaders development is a long term and consistent process with a regular schedule. In developing the team leaders, it is necessarily for the executive team to discover the ability, dreams and the desire of each person selected for team leadership positions in the organization differently and teaches them on what each person needs for the job (Gold, 2010). Individual desire and dreams influence the leadership development process. League club executive team should individualize the selection and the development process for every potential leader in the organization. In developing effective team leaders, the top team should tag the leadership development process to the goals of an organization. This is done through matching the goals of the organization with the strength of the leaders under training (Winter, 2010). The top team in league club should also lead by example by providing excellent leadership for an organization and acting as mentors to the team leaders under training. It should also continually monitor the team leaders in training for improvement and offer useful insights that can guide them to becoming great leaders in future. The top team in league club should also seek to develop each leader in a team differently. One mistake that many top teams make in leadership development is trying to develop every leader in a certain way. Everybody responds differently to different leadership training modules hence there is a need to use different leadership strategies for the people in leadership training (Moyle’s 2006). It is the duty of the leagues club executive team to identify leaders to perform all the functional, executive and administrative roles in the club. The entire team of leaders must be able to handle all the roles of a team leader. This calls for the top team to be wise in the people they promote or hire for the leadership roles in the organization (Langdon-fox, 2003). It is necessarily to scrutinize the team selected for the leadership role in the organization thoroughly before they assume their leadership roles. If the leadership team is from a promotion within the company, then it is necessarily to hire trusted people in the organization. Examples are employees who handle the duties delegated to them effectively (Langdon-fox, 2003). It is essential for the league club’s top team to hire team leaders commensurate with the leadership positions granted to them. Any company needs to develop new leaders in a rate that is commensurate with its growth strategy. Great team leaders are an essential part of a great organization. If the top team can master the ways of aligning and building the diverse people to work as team leaders for the common goal of the organization, then the top team can be able to sustain continued growth and development of team leaders in an organization (Gold, 2010). The top team in league club as a role model in measuring the performance of the teams in an organization. The top team in league club should also be adept at measuring the performance of teams in an organization. Teams in an organization are measured depending on the processes of the team or its internal dynamics .Some of the measures used to evaluate teams include the measures that address the cohesiveness of the team , the effectiveness of team meetings, a teams problem solving activity and the ability of the team to reach agreement. The results of a teams work are also brilliant measures of the performance of an organization .For example the projects completed by team or a teams final report (IDEA, 2010). Individual’s contribution to a team is also a measure used to evaluate teams’ effectiveness. These measures evaluate how people relate with the team. For example, the amount of participation, or their individual results as per the effort they put in developing the final project team (John & schilling 2010). Being adept at measuring the performance of teams in an organization is an important duty of the top team in league club because these measures of performance can be used in the performance appraisals A measure that indicates that a team has performed poorly means that the performance of a team is unacceptable and, there is the need for changes in the way the team functions or a change in the leadership of the team. It is possible to transform a team that records mediocre performance to a highly effective team by measuring a team’s performance and then using the results as a benchmark for improving the performance of a team (Moyle’s, 2006). Measurement of team performance is an important undertaking because it builds a problem-solving platform in an organization. Team measurements allow organizations to create an organized process for continued improvement and accountability. Measurements of the team performance show that the management the performance of various teams in an organization and therefore the process builds trust in the management that the high performing teams are doing the right things for the company (Tony, 2003 Team performance measurements are essential in league club because they can provide the club with the information necessarily for identifying the weaknesses and strength of a company in its performance. This information is very essential for problem solving through carrying out improved work processes to improve performance. Measurement of team’s performance connects teams to the strategy and the visions of an organization (Senge, 1995). The top team in league club should involve the teams in an organization in the development of measurement to ensure that the measurement conforms to the notion of how a team thinks it should be evaluated for its collective work. Measurement of performance and effective problem solving techniques link a business to better results and therefore the top team should be a role model for other teams in an organization by having and implementing brilliant team performance strategies for the organization (Welch, 2005). The Top team in league club should not just evaluate the performance of other teams in the organization. It should also periodically review its own performance to lead by example in evaluating team performance. The top team as a role model in developing a collaborative organization Organizations hire employees because they have some certain niche to fill in the organization. Since employees must work together in an organization, some certain elements in an organization must be in place for them to work together. There must be specific goals set for each employees in an organization and there must be trust in an organization (Moyle’s, 2006). It is the duty of the top team in league club to foster an empowering, open and honest work atmosphere to build collaboration in the workplace Strong leadership is also another element necessary for collaboration to be there between the workers of an organization. A strong leader will always lead by example and therefore, the top team in league club should provide strong leadership to employees in the organization. It is also the duty of the top team to encourage team spirit within an organization to aid employees to build solid and professional relationships. Strong leadership is necessary for an organization to provide direction to employees on the attainment of goals of an organization. (Gold, 2010). Another way the top team in league club can enhance collaboration in the workplace is providing clear avenues for effective communication in the workplace. It is necessary for every person in a team to have clear goals set out on what they should achieve to eliminate ambiguity in the workplace, for it is a boon to collaboration in the workplace (Winter, 2010). The top team of league club should effectively communicate the targets and the work priorities in an organization and the way the employees should function in an organization. The top team should inform employees of the appraisals at work and let the entire worker give their feedback on all issues related to the work process in an organization (IDEA, 2010). One important aspect of promoting collaboration in teams is recognition and reward programs for employees who perform exceptionally. Recognition programs motivate whole teams to work better. The top team in league club should also recognize the need for individualized attention as important to motivate employees to work better with others. It is necessarily to involve each employee in the setting of goals and appraise each employee individually in achieving each goal in the organization. Another way of promoting team collaboration in an organization is timely elimination of conflict (IDEA, 2010). The top team in league club should quickly mediate any conflict in the organization in an impartial way the top team should help employees to reach a compromise on the conflict. Another way of improving collaboration in the workplace is making sure the top team encourages the workers in an organization to reward one another in the work process based on work excellence. Such simple things can motivate employees to collaborate and give their best in groups (Tony, 2003). The executive team in league club should therefore, act as a role model for the rest of the teams in an organization by providing exemplary leadership. References IDEA (2010). Inside top teams.
